10 Tips to do better in Spanish:

How can I be successful in Spanish class?

1 – Pay attention during class.

Listen with your ears and EYES!  Since this is a different language, you will also need to rely on visual clues that you can only get from watching!  Write down any tips or strategies that Profe Smith shares with you, especially ways to help you remember things.  (Please do not come to class thinking that you will have any extra time to work on things for other classes or read a novel.  (Once in a while, you might have a little extra time to work quietly after completing your quiz, test etc.)

2 – Use your time wisely in class during for DAILY work.

Take this practice opportunity seriously and do your best work, so that the tasks will not be difficult for you during assessments.  Online assignments provide instant feedback to let you know how you are doing, for example, with verb conjugation. At school, I will offer extra help as needed.  NOTE:  You must SUBMIT/RECORD your score so I can see you completed the work when I go to enter the grades into Infinite Campus.

3 – STUDY a little bit EVERY DAY, instead of only the night before quiz or test.

4 – Go to www.LaProfeSmith.com (my teacher’s website) and study the current vocabulary and grammar (it will be highlighted). My website has links to QUIZLET flashcard sets for each topic we cover in Spanish 1 & 2.  I also continuously add resources (videos lessons, songs, chants etc.) to help you master the vocab and grammar content.

Click on Spanish 1 or Spanish 2 - depending on which class you are in.

(NOTE:  Spanish 2 students can even go back to Spanish 1 vocabulary sets in case they have forgotten essential vocabulary.)

5 – Go to www.senorjordan.com and watch his video lessons beginning with the first lesson.  Señor Jordan has FREE videos, from basic to advanced, that can help a student strengthen skills in Spanish!

(This is kind of like the Khan Academy site that helps students with math skills.)

6 – Go to www.conjuguemos.com and practice verb conjugations UNTIL they are easy for you!  The amount of time this takes will be different for every student.  We work on this in the computer lab, but students are always welcome to continue practicing at home.  Just make sure you RECORD/SUBMIT your score if you want it to be counted for a grade.

7 – Use the free DUOLINGO app or go to Duolingo.com on a computer.  The students that work on this daily tend to do the best in Spanish class.  You an use it to review basic content or move forward at your own pace.

8 – Go to TUTORING as needed!

During the school day in our 30-minute PAWS time, which is after 2nd period.

9 – Begin to use Spanish in your daily life.  Many students take Spanish in high school.  Try sending one of your friends some text messages in Spanish.  It will help BOTH of you grow stronger in the language.  You can also follow my teacher pages on social media for practice in reading Spanish.   (instagram.com/laprofesmith/  AND   facebook.com/laprofesmith)

10 – Maintain a positive attitude!  Spanish is a valuable TOOL that can help you no matter which career you choose in the future!  Some students already get to use it at their part-time jobs!  I love it when they come to school excited about using Spanish in real-life situations!
